    Shaykh Muhammad Ozair Shams was born in 1957 in the province of Bihar in India in the village of Bankto in the area of Madhoni. His father Shamsul Haq and grandfather Razaullah were distinguished scholars of their area. His father named him Ozair but later on he added “Muhammad” before and “Shams” after, hence he was named “Muhammad Ozair Shams”

    His studies

    Shaykh Ozair Shams started his studies in the Madrasah Faidh Aam in Mao where he completed level of Persian. He started his Arabic studies in 1966 in Dar Al-Ulum Ahmadiyah Salafiyah (Darbanghah, Bihar). He completed the second year of Arabic in Dar Al-Hadith (Bail Dhangah, Murshidabad, Bengal). He did his third and fourth years of Arabic studies in Madrasah Rehmaniyah (Banaris).

    In 1970, he entered Jamiyah Salafiyah Banaris, where he completed level of Alimiyah in 4 years and level of Fazeelat in 2 years and he graduated from there in 1976. He also studied English language whilst there.

    After graduating from Jamiyah Salafiyah, he travelled for a year and half visiting different libraries and universities in Delhi, Patna, Lukhnow, Aligarh, Calcutta and other cities. In this period, he met many scholars and observed c

    Indian freedom struggle activist and scholar

    Uzair Gul Peshawari (1886 – 17 November 1989) was an Islamic scholar and an activist of the Indian freedom struggle against British rule who actively participated in the Silk Letter Movement. He was an alumnus of the Darul Uloom Deoband and served as the head-teacher of Madrasa Rahmania in Roorkee.

    Biography

    Gul hailed from Ziarat Kaka Sahib, a town located in Peshawar.[1] He completed his primary studies with local teachers and moved to Darul Uloom Deoband, where he studied with Mahmud Hasan Deobandi.[2] He graduated from Darul Uloom in 1331 A.H.[1] During Khilafat Movement, Gul was made the president of Khilafat Committee in Deoband.[1] He was a close companion of Mahmud Hasan Deobandi and was imprisoned along with him in Malta for his role in the Silk Letter Movement.[3]

    He served as a teacher at Darul Uloom Deoband[4] and before World War II, he was appointed as a head-teacher in Madrasa Rahmania in Roorkee.[1]

    In 1945, Gul moved to his native place in Peshawar along with his English wife Beatrice Cooke.[5]

    Gul died on 17 November 1989.[6]
