The indomitable 20-stone Ox pulling South Africa's pack on a revenge mission
It would be stretching a point to suggest it has been better second time around, because the best part of the first time around was a laying of Springbok hands on the World Cup. Os du Randt was still a few months short of his 23rd birthday when South Africa beat New Zealand in the 1995 final in Johannesburg, yet he had already established himself as one of the great forwards of the modern era. Tomorrow, when he smashes into the England scrummagers in front of 80,000-plus spectators in St Denis, he will do so in the belief that one truly convincing performance will give him a chance of tasting the nectar again.
"We see this as the game – the game – that can put us on the right track in this tournament," said The Ox, pooh-poohing the suggestion that the reigning champions are not up to much. "People talk about the two matches we played at home in the summer, but that wasn't the England team we defeated. It was someone else. They left so many players behind, and there was nothing in it for the players they brought. There is certainly something in it for those they have picked for this game, which is why we expect it to be 100 per cent harder. They are still the holders and they have something to prove.

Sometimes in sports, the word ‘legend’ can be used to easily, but there is no doubt that former Springbok prop Os du Randt is truly worthy of that title.
Besides featuring in a memorable 80 Tests for the Springboks, his story itself is the stuff of legend.
After forming part of the successful 1995 World Cup-winning squad, Du Randt would go on to enjoy an illustrious career with both the Springboks and predominantly the Cheetahs – at domestic level – before first retiring in 2000.
However, a few years later he would be coaxed out of retirement by then Springbok coach Jake White, and in one of the comeback stories for the ages, he would finish his international career as part of the 2007 World Cup-winning team.
"I would have to say that I never thought I would bow out in a World Cup final when I called it a day in 2000," he reflected at the time after completing his incredible comeback. "To begin with a world title and to finish with another would be a real accomplishment, a memory that I will cherish forever."
Springbok icon Os du Randt has also made a big impact away from the rugby field
Following his second – and final – retirement in 2007, Du Randt spent time serving as a scrum coach, briefly with the Cheetahs and then as a consultant with the Springb
