      Hon’ble President of India Mrs. Droupadi Murmu's maiden foreign visit to Suriname from 04-06th June 2023, upon the invitation of President Santokhi, marked a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries. She was State Guest at the 150th Anniversary of the arrival of Indians in Suriname. President Murmu was accompanied by a distinguished delegation, including the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Rural Development, Smt. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, and Smt. Rama Devi, MP (Lok Sabha), along with other high-ranking officials. Soon after Suriname’s Independence on November 25, 1975, India established diplomatic relations in 1976 and opened its Embassy in Paramaribo in 1977. The Suriname Embassy, however, started functioning in New Delhi from March 2000.
