R Nagendra Rao
Rattihalli Nagendra Rao, or RN Rao, born on 23rd June , was a renowned personality in the field of cinema. Besides being an actor, he not only took to film direction, but was also a screenwriter, producer, an occasional composer, and above all one of the founding fathers of the Kannada film industry.
Rao began his career as a theatre actor, performing in Kannada plays right from the young age of eight. As a child, Rao portrayed mythological female characters such as Sita, Chandramathi and Desdemona.
He soon switched to male roles, his work proving popular in the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysore and non-Kannada speaking Madras Presidency. In theatre, he worked with A V Varadacharya’s Ratnavali Drama Company and Chamundeshwari Company, in Mysore.
Like many of his peers, Rao, who was actively engaged in theatre and basking in the fame that it brought, saw the magic of movies wrest him into its fold.
With the beginning of the talkies’ era in India in , Rao left for Bombay (now Mumbai) where he was cast by actor-director P K Raja Sandow in the Tamil language films Parijata Pushpaharanam (), Kovalan () and Telugu film Ramadasu ().

R. N. Jayagopal (&#;– 19 May ) was an Indian film director and lyricist in Kannada cinema. He had written over 12, film songs.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]R. N. Jayagopal, known to friends and fans as RNJ, was born in to R. Nagendra Rao, another great of Kannada cinema. He did his primary and college education in Bangalore. He learnt Carnatic music from B. S. Raj Iyengar and was good at playing the violin. Jayagopal was one of four sons of his parents. His other famous siblings were older brother R. N. K. Prasad, who was a cinematographer, and younger brother R. N. Sudarshan, a veteran film actor and producer.
Career
[edit]Jayagopal entered the film industry by writing the lyrics of "Tribhuvana Janani Jaganmohini" for the film Premada Putri produced by his father. From then on, he wrote script, dialogue and lyrics for hundreds of films. He had directed eight films, including Dhumaketu, Kesarina Kamala and Avala Antaranga. He won the State award as best dialogue writer for Namma Makkalu and Pallavi Anu Pallavi, which was Mani Ratnam's first film.
